Concrete Additives

Novakem™ Concrete Additives

According to NBR 11768/2011, a chemical additive is a product added to the mass of cementitious material during the concrete preparation process, in a quantity not exceeding 5% of the mass of the cementitious material contained therein, with the objective of modifying its properties in the fresh and/or hardened state. In the case of sprayed concrete, the dosage may exceed 5%.

Additives modify the rheological properties of concrete and/or alter the hydration reactions of cement. They can improve workability, modify viscosity, affect water retention, accelerate or retard setting time, control the development of mechanical strength, contribute to reducing shrinkage, mitigate the consequences of sulfate attack, alkali-aggregate reaction, and reinforcement corrosion, among others. Polykem additives are multifunctional water reducers added to concrete during its preparation, increasing the workability of the concrete and controlling slump during transport, especially when high levels of artificial sands are required.

The challenges of depleting natural resources such as sand necessitate the development of additives that allow for the use of larger quantities of manufactured fine aggregates without compromising their properties and quality.

For this increasingly necessary application in ready-mixed concrete, a new family of multifunctional additives with nanoparticles in their composition has been developed to condition irregular powder surfaces, improving the appearance and reducing the roughness of concretes produced with high levels of artificial sand.
